Bebi fluorescent replacement (Fautasi)
Fautasi 18 LED Marine Boat & RV 12 Volt Strip Lights
Michael at Bebi writes the following:
We ALWAYS listen to our customers, and we always enjoy getting requests for making unique lights. When Bill in Malaysia contacted us with a request for an attractive light to replace the (broken) fluoresent lights on his cruising yacht, he very much caught our interest.
Fiji has many beautiful indiginous woods, and we chose to use dakua salusalu (Decussocarpus vitiensis) for it’s beauty. Since this light is hand-crafted by our employee’s from a renewable resource, each one is slightly different from another in its appearance but will still enhance the beauty of your yacht’s saloon.
As this light was to be a replacement for a fluoro fixture, we were challenged with the question of length. What we finally settled on was to make each unit 150mm in length, so they could replace into the space of a 12, 18 or 24 inch fixture, without having to build and stock multiple sizes. Having the 150mm (6″) length also made it a perfect interiour light for small ‘trailer-sailers’, who have to watch not just their power consumption, but whether the light will fit at all!
We also spent quite a bit of time considering if the unit should have a switch or not (relative, switches are expensive). What we decided was to produce a three varients; unswitched, toggle switched, and magnetically actuated switched units. The toggle switched units have a switched ‘hot pigtail’, so you can control multiple unswitched units from a single switched one, not only saving you a bit of money, but it makes ‘ganging’ the lights together easier (don’t worry, we have instructions with all of our lights, as well as in our ‘Hints and Suggestions’ web page!)
Knowing that Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavours for a reason, you may order your Fautasi lights in either Warm White, or Pure White, colours….
The ink wasn’t even dry on our design paper before we came up with a thought for the toggle switched Fautasi LED fluorescent light replacement. We added a three way switch and a small, yellow, indicator LED. You can now choose (on the toggle switch light only) between ‘light on’, ‘light off’, and ‘indicator’, so as you can find the light switch in the dark! The indicator LED only draws 0.005 amps, so it really won’t break the electrical budget!
As is usual for us, we tested one of the proto-types in the galley of our own boat (which we also live aboard on), a Downeaster 38, with a U-Shaped galley. Perfect!

Sensibulb: Incandescent Warmth, LED EconomicsAfter sunset your house batteries get quite a workout. Unless you’re plugged into a dock, most of us become genuine cheapskates with the cabin lighting. After all, interior lighting causes a constant drain on your batteries, and they can get dangerously hot. A good skipper can’t help but be aware that his batteries are being used up literally before his eyes! Sailor’s Solutions Sensibulb™ LED Lights are very easy on your batteries. In fact, these little units use about six to eight times fewer amp-hours than Halogens and Xenons and they don’t throw off all that uncomfortable heat. Sailor’s Solutions believes that Halogen lighting is just plain dangerous and should be considered a fire hazard. Up to now, if you wanted to use LEDs and enjoy the energy savings and low heat, you had to put up with lighting that just wasn’t bright enough and had a harsh blue tint. Overhead or dome lighting was impossible and reading under a narrow “spot” was a challenge. The crew at Sailor’s Solutions set out to solve the technical challenges involved with making a 12-Volt DC light bulb replacement with the beneficial low energy usage of LEDs. It would need to produce light just as bright and dispersed as a real light bulb and function equally well in overhead or dome applications. Sailor’s Solutions threw in dimmable too because it’s just such a luxury to be able to dim down a fixture when you want to. With the help of several talented engineers and thermal engineering assistance from NASA’s SATOP program, the Sensibulb™ LED Lighting System was perfected. Featuring abundant soft white light in a dispersed pattern with very efficient energy usage, Sensibulb™ is a direct replacement for all of your 12VDC interior lightbulbs. But that’s not all! Each Sensibulb has a dimmer circuit (optional) that allows you to tune in just the right amount of light for a comfortable dining or entertaining experience. So turn on the cabin lights and adjust them as you prefer. Have a pleasant evening onboard and don’t worry about the batteries! Sensibulb™ Specification:

Michael at Bebi in Fiji writes: “Electrically, we use an integral linear current regulator to provide maximum light intensity without negatively impacting the life of the LED’s. We have had a light on ‘Shangri-La’ in continuous test for over 18 months without any sign of deterioration or discoloration in the lenses. It has been repeatedly subject to system voltages greater than 15 volts and as low as 11.5. The light has been subjected to tropical storms and the harsh radiation of the tropical sun.”
Bebi Cockpit Light
Michael at Bebi in Fiji writes:
“As with all of Bebi products, every Beka Marine and Off Grid Anchor and Cockpit LED light undergoes rigorous testing including a burn in period under a varying voltage levels. This final test and our conservative, but innovative, design makes us feel confident to offer a limited LIFETIME WARRANTY (our lifetime, not the product’s sales life!).
“Unlike the cheap rubbish produced for the automotive market with a ‘marine’ label attached, the Beka, like all of our marine LED lights, is designed from the ground up for a lifetime of use in the harsh marine environment.
“Using a UPVC shell, our marine LED lights will withstand the direct tropical sunlight on your yacht for years. It is fully sealed to ensure a long life through even the worst of a typical Fijian ’carwash’ rain squall. We even warrantee our light to a depth of 1 meter for 1 hour (it’s actually better than that, but if your cockpit is more than a meter underwater for an hour, you likely have more worries than an anchor light)!
“Electrically, the Beka anchor and cockpit light has an integral current regulator to ensure full output while maintaining a long life during the voltage ups and downs of the battery charging cycle. Also available with custom cord length, no cord, or no cigarette plug (for less $).”

Stecktronics Tri-Color and Anchor Lights
This new Stecktronics product is manufactured in Marathon, Florida. All parts are precision cut on an automated CNC router. The case material is marine grade polymer and the lens is 1/8″ polycarbonate. All fasteners are marine grade stainless and its watertight integrity is accomplished with 13 mechanically compressed O-rings and a waterproof cable grip. Incredibly low current draw, only 100ma (0.1 amps) in the lower anchor light section. Current draw for the upper tri-light section is just 185ma (0.18 amps). This is approximately 1/10th the current draw of a traditional incandescent fixture.
One great feature of this light is that any part of it can be replaced, and that includes any of the LED wafers or control boards. In the unlikely event something goes wrong, Stecktronics believes that it is very important that their lights can be fixed, as opposed to a light that is a sealed unit.
Two-Wire vs Three-Wire:
If you already have three wires running up the mast and have separate switches for navigation and anchor lights, then a three-wire system will work for you.
If you only have two wires running up the mast and have an existing anchor light switch; then a two-wire system is what you need. An exclusive Stecktronics micro-controller will remember how many times you turned your existing anchor light switch on and off and turn on either the anchor light or the tri-color light. All this with no extra wiring. Your existing switch will do it all! Full switch count features and instructions are available in the documentation listed below.

OGM
OGM LED Navigation and Anchor Lights
New! OGM LED Running Lights
Introducing a complete line of Coast Guard approved, low power, rugged LED navigation lighting for power and sail boats up to 50 meters (165 ft) in length. An included mounting bracket is provided for the red or green navigation lights; no bracket is required for the stern light.
OGM has re-engineered its LED navigation lights to include waterproof connectors. This is of tremendous value to trailer-sailors who must disconnect cabling to their masthead and anchor lights every time they trailer their boat. It is also important to northern sailors who haul out each winter.
It is less important to southern sailors who rarely de-step their mast, but the waterproof connector prevents condensation in the fixture and wiring.
